2 DAY OPEN RETRIEVER TRIAL 3RD & 4TH OCTOBER 2022

Results of the Carmarthenshire 2 day retriever open trial.

Good 2 days with the guns shooting well throughout. Difficult on the first day with a lot of dogs falling by the wayside early on. But following that dogs really rose to the occasion. 8 dogs taken through to day 2 which was judged impeccably by the judges Wayne Mitchell, Lynn Mitchell, Alan Downey and Jason mayhew.

Today second day was back into the sugar beet but this time higher and full of birds. Dogs crossing the line being stretched. 4 dogs were left to pick their 6 retrieve and unfortunately Nigel Probert had his eye wiped by Birgitta staflund-wiburg, and the other dogs picked their last also.

It was a pleasure to watch the last dogs and deservedly Birgitta got first place with credit picking a live bird just before her eye wipe.

Second was Becky thistle with a lovely bitch in only her second open trial and third place was awarded to John halstead.

Nigel was awarded a CofM

1st Birgitta Staflund-Wiburg with drumgoose Klinkhammer

2nd to Becky Thistle with Carduea yellands

3rd place John halstead with Emmanygan Summer

CofM to Nigel Probert with

Drakeshead Drew of llangynidr.

Thank you to Hi Fly for hosting the trial and to the two helpers who travelled up to assist me. I must stress how helpful skinners dog food have been to the club over the last couple of seasons.

Thanks also to Mark stevens and Mark Morton who travelled up to help out

NOVICE RETRIEVER TRIAL – DECEMBER 14th 2022

Today the Carmarthenshire gundog society had its last retriever trial of the year. Our novice trial today was at the Bitterley lodge shoot care of Norman and Sandra Onens.

After 3 drives we had 4 dogs in line to finish the trial. Prior to which we saw some of the best dog work I’ve seen at a novice trial where they were pushed from the off.

4 dogs were sent on their last retrieve which gave us the ability to split the last 3 dogs.

Judges A panel Andrew Slingsby, B panel Michael Jones, non panel Ellena Swift Nunneley and non panel Mark Schiller.

1st was Tim Brain with Cornstraw Drake of Flypatch

2nd was Mark Stevens with Ffynongain Judge

3rd place was Jamie Bettinson with white spring Black Grouse.

Great day thank you to all helpers beaters keeper and the syndicate of guns who were very patient having a trial interrupt their shooting day.
